From June 25 to 30, 2023, the Institute of Latvian History will host the international summer school for scientists "Latvia and Ukraine in the shadow of imperialism" with the support of the State Cultural Capital Fund. The aim of the school is to identify and investigate the common trends in the history and cultural development of the Latvian and Ukrainian peoples during the great "empires" – from the 16th century to the end of the 20th century, as well as to determine the influence of "empires" on the formation of identity and statehood.

The summer school will be attended by lecturers from the Institute of Latvian History, Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv, Institute of Ukrainian History of the Ukraine National Academy of Science, Vasilis Stefanik Prikarpaty National University, Medieval Research Centre "Centrum Studiorum Mediaevalium", Warsaw and Bydgoszcz Universities.
